KidzShop Program provides 300+ low-income children a back-to-school shopping experience.

ALBANY, Ore. – June 9, 2016 – Heritage Mall in Albany, Oregon, received three awards by The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) at the annual 2016 U.S. MAXI awards ceremony held recently in Las Vegas. These included the Silver MAXI award, which recognizes excellence in shopping center marketing, the 2016 Western Region award and the 2016 Overall U.S. Community Support award presented by the ICSC Foundation. The awards recognized Heritage Mall and the mall’s owner, Vintage Real Estate, a Los Angeles-based private investment firm, which focuses on the direct acquisition, operation and development of value-add properties nationwide.

All three awards were for the successful creation and implementation of “KidzShop,” a special back-to-school shopping event, created in partnership with local philanthropic organization Altrusa International of Albany, aimed at helping children from low-income families enter the school year with confidence. More than 300 children were each paired with a community volunteer at Heritage Mall and given $100 to spend on new apparel. Local businesses donated backpacks, school supplies and hygiene products.

As a result of the 2016 Foundation Western Region and Overall U.S. awards, Altrusa will receive a donation of $10,000 from the ICSC Foundation.

“'It takes a village to raise a child' came true this year as the community gathered in a display of generosity and care for children in our community,” said Betsy Penson, general manager at Heritage Mall and corporate director of marketing of Vintage, the Los Angeles based private investment firm, which has received numerous awards over the years. “We were thrilled with the amount of community support received for KidzShop and look forward to continually implementing programs like this one to support the community of Albany and the Mid-Willamette Valley.”

ICSC’s U.S. MAXI Awards highlight the retail real estate industry’s most innovative events, programs and technologies that added value to shopping centers across the country. The 2016 Traditional Marketing winners, which included Vintage, executed outstanding strategies across a number of subcategories including advertising, business-to-business, cause-related marketing, event and sales promotions and public relations. The winners utilized a myriad of resources to enhance their properties and support their respective communities.

As a result of these awards, Heritage Mall and Vintage will now be entered into the ICSC Foundation, Albert Sussman International Community Support Award program, competing against shopping centers around the world.
